A retail shoe store utilising the CDN stretch ceiling

Project Objectives

In retail settings it is essential to display merchandise to maximise sales. Key elements to consider in a retail environment include:

To optimise product visibility & color accuracy:

High Color Rendering Index (CRI lighting 95+) ensures merchandise such as clothes, food and colourful merchandise display their true, vibrant colors, preventing buyer hesitation caused by poor color perception.

To encourage dwell time & mood:

  • Lower lighting colour temperatures creates a cozy, intimate atmosphere that encourages shoppers to relax, slow down, linger, and browse designer or luxury items.

  • Cooler colour temperatures encourage high energy and focus, which complements fast-paced environments like supermarkets, electronics, or sports stores.

Drives focus via specialised lighting applications:

  • Ambient Lighting: General overhead illumination that accounts for roughly 50% of the space to ensure safe, comfortable navigation.

  • Accent Lighting: Use of Spotlights and Track Lights High-contrast beams that draw the eye toward promotional displays, new arrivals, or high-margin luxury items.

  • Task Lighting: Bright, targeted light for functional zones like fitting rooms, service desks, and cashier counters to build purchase confidence.

Project Outcomes

The Tony Bianco project addresses most if not all of these retail lighting objectives.

Ambient lighting within the main aisle of the store relies on the CDN stretch ceiling. This installation provides a uniform light in 3000k which promotes easy navigation of the shelves and provides an attractive ambiance encouraging longer shopping time.

Utilising 3000k light sources provide a welcoming atmosphere for customers to shop within while task lighting provided by the track spots highlights high margin products (hot spots) within the planogram.
