The centre adopts a “homely warehouse” aesthetic, featuring an industrial open-plan fit-out inspired by the Australia Post delivery centre network. The interior is divided into distinct zones, each reflecting a different era of Australian domestic architecture, subtly weaving historical context and nostalgia into the everyday experience of staff. Sustainability and material reuse were core to the project’s ethos.
Project Objectives
The brief was to provide an environmentally responsible design and enable the lighting scheme to integrate the unique architecture to compliment the industrial aesthetic.
Project Outcomes
An impressive 90 percent of materials from the base build fit-out were reused or recycled, demonstrating a lean, efficient, and environmentally responsible design approach. Lighting: The Arup team utilised lighting elements to include suspended Unistrut through open-plan areas, which supports both linear uplighting to provide indirect illumination and fixed spotlights to the underside to provide task and general lighting. Meeting spaces incorporate up/down track systems with integrated up light in conjunction with track spots for task lighting.
Inlite Products Used
Directional illumination in open plan areas is provided by Inlite Tuba II spotlights with custom mounting to suspended Unistrut. Breakout spaces use matching Tuba II spots fixed to 3-circuit lighting track.
Klus PDS-H profiles were used extensively, mounted to the top of suspended Unistrut to provide indirect illumination to open plan workspaces. Klus PDS-H and Piko profile were also used in joinery and task lighting applications.
Large meeting and training spaces utilise Ivela ‘35’ tubular lighting system, which provides white or RGBW linear lighting for diffused illumination. Matching 35 track incorporates linear up light combined with 48v track for direct illumination using spotlights.
Additional lighting elements include Inlite Tube Starr surface mounted downlights and Inlite Super Starr recessed wall washer downlights
