Design: Doherty Design Studio // Photography: Derek Swalwell // “Refined meets rustic: this contemporary two-level, three-bedroom home in country Victoria was designed and built for a young Melbourne family as their weekender and holiday retreat. The solid granite form of the building is complemented by an atmospheric pitched roof, exposed rafters, and is contrasted with a refined mix of materials and textures. The light-filled interior is restrained and pared back, yet layered. Continuity is achieved through the considered repetition of colours, surfaces and materials. Timber panelling, bespoke joinery, custom-concrete benchtops, terrazzo floors, hand-glazed tiles, ceramic washbasins, tan leather accents and bronze tapware all sit together in quiet harmony.
